When low tide comes in Soulac, due to dikes created in World War II, seawater is left on the beach. These pools are perfect for swimming when you don’t feel like waves for a while.
Soulac is a pleasant seaside resort. The basins are just to the north and can be reached via the large unpaved parking lot from where the bike path through the dunes to Verdon also begins. This cycle path runs parallel to a railroad track over which a tourist train travels along all the beach entrances and ends at La Pointe de Grave en Verdon. This is the tip of the Medoc where the Gironde estuary meets the ocean. From here the ferry leaves for Royan.
